Resumo: The psychological effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on the Portuguese population are
quite relevant and partially related to their repetitive and disruptive thinking about the disease. The
successive periods of lockdown contributed to an additional burden on the family–work–life balance
for parents. This study aims to validate the Portuguese version of the Obsession with COVID-19 Scale
(PT-OCS), which was developed using a general sample from several regions of the country (n = 531)
together with a specific sample of Portuguese parents (n = 109). The confirmatory factor analysis
results indicate that the PT-OCS includes a set of excellent psychometric properties concerning
both the general sample (χ2
(1) = 0.446, p = 0.504; CFI = 1.0; GFI = 1.0; RMSEA = 0.0; standardised
RMR = 0.003) and the parent group (χ2
(2) = 1.816, p = 0.403; CFI = 1.0; GFI = 0.99; RMSEA = 0.0;
standardised RMR = 0.016; Bollen–Stine bootstrap p = 0.65). The scale shows very good reliability
(0.84 < α/ω < 0.88). As expected, obsession with COVID-19 was highly correlated with COVID-19
anxiety, and women had higher PT-OCS scores. The findings suggest that the PT-OCS is a reliable
and valid measure for both persistent and disruptive thinking about COVID-19 in different groups of
the Portuguese population, with potential for studying future epidemic events.2024-02-28T00:00:00ZPersonal values and life domain satisfaction predict global life satisfaction differently across culturesGalinha, Iolanda CostaOishi, ShigehiroPereira, CíceroWirtz, Derrickhttp://hdl.handle.net/11144/66472023-11-09T15:38:52Z2023-01-01T00:00:00ZTítulo: Personal values and life domain satisfaction predict global life satisfaction differently across cultures

Resumo: The study tests two competing theoretical perspectives on the relationship between personal values and global life satisfaction, and the mediation of life domain satisfaction, contributing with novel empirical data across three countries and continents: United States (N = 497), North America; Mozambique (N = 544), Africa; and Portugal (N = 541), Europe. Structural equation modelling showed that personal values and life domain satisfaction associated in both ways differently and similarly with global life satisfaction across countries. Global life satisfaction significantly associated with benevolence in the three samples; with stimulation in the U.S. and Mozambique, but not in Portugal; with tradition in Mozambique and Portugal, but not in the US; and with achievement only in Portugal. The two theoretical perspectives received partial support from the data, suggesting that each may explain part of the phenomena. Life domain satisfaction mediated the relationship between personal values and global life satisfaction. However, the person-environment congruency values perspective received the most support from the data, showing that personal values differ in how they predict global life satisfaction across samples. The differences found suggest a possible connection with individualism-collectivism and the developmental level in each country, but also with other dominant cultural values such as uncertainty avoidance and indulgence.2023-01-01T00:00:00ZEstilos de autoridade parental, práticas parentais e auto-eficáciaPires, Mónicahttp://hdl.handle.net/11144/66442023-11-07T13:17:33Z2019-05-01T00:00:00ZTítulo: Estilos de autoridade parental, práticas parentais e auto-eficácia

Resumo: In its early stage, the COVID-19 pandemic and the subsequent public health measures
brought several challenges to people in general, with adolescents being one of the most affected
groups. To assess the psychological reactions of Portuguese adolescents in that early phase of the
COVID-19 pandemic, we conducted an online survey that was filled by a sample of 340 (67.6% female
and 32.4% male) middle adolescents (aged 16 and 17 years). Using the Impact Event Scale-Revised
and the Depression, Anxiety, and Stress Scale, we found that most participants reported a normal
score for depression, anxiety, and stress. However, 47.1% reported some level of pandemic-related
traumatic distress, and 25.6% reported high severity values. The girls’ levels of depression, anxiety,
stress, and traumatic distress were significantly higher than those of the boys. Regression models
showed that gender, number of symptoms experienced in the past days, self-reported health status,
and concern with family were significant predictors of these mental health indicators. Our findings
underscore the need for future research on the long-term traumatic psychological impact of the
COVID-19 pandemic in adolescents, and on the gender differences in this group. This will allow the
development of strategies to identify and address at-risk adolescents, since the promotion of mental
health and the prevention of pathology are imperative for the health of current and future generations2023-05-02T00:00:00Z
