Resumo: In the last decade, the clinical laboratory sector in Portugal has witnessed an
increase in competition through the integration of small private laboratories in
multinational organizations. In this competition scenario, it is imperative that
decisions related to management are made based on the analysis of varied and
detailed information data in order to propose strategies and prioritize
management. Thus, the growing need for data analysis, especially in dynamic
contexts, to detect, identify and characterize the most relevant issues for a more
efficient decision-making process, is essential. This research was based on data for
the period 2014-2017, from a private clinical laboratory located in the Algarve. The
use of two interrelated information structures, namely 14 collection points and
the subsequent 10 clinical tests with the highest billing volume in 2017, led to the
application of the COSTATIS method (Thioulouse et al., 2011) in order to capture a
common co-structure that analyses the stability or instability of the two data
structures. An exploratory three-way multiblock method highlights the relations
between two data structures as a whole. Therefore, the interpretation of the
influence relationships of the production of clinical tests on the performance of
collection points can reveal particularly useful discrepancies and/or coincidences
for the management. With this detailed information, it is possible to propose
initiatives for improvement or correction and to promote functional strategies
with the objective of assisting the laboratory management process and suggesting
strategies that are more efficient.2019-01-01T00:00:00ZIdentification and characterization of national and international meta organizations related to the industrySantos, António DuarteCastro, HélioNogueira, RicardoÁvila, Paulohttp://hdl.handle.net/11144/63382024-01-10T11:00:16Z2020-01-01T00:00:00ZTítulo: Identification and characterization of national and international meta organizations related to the industry
Autor: Santos, António Duarte; Castro, Hélio; Nogueira, Ricardo; Ávila, Paulo
Resumo: This paper proposes to identify and characterize national and international Meta-Organizations (MO) that operate in the industrial sector. Through the identification and characterization of some MO, it will be discussed such topics as, the functioning of Meta-Organization, its different forms of structuring, levels of stratification, as well as the relationship between members, among others. Through its characterization, based on the analyzed cases, it is possible to observe that, in terms of innovation and in the industrial sector, there is a tendency for the type of Meta-Organization structure used, all of which adopted by an open co-owner model (or managed ecosystem). After characterization, it was then allowed to understand the importance of Meta-Organizations in the economy, as they promote greater business competitiveness, using business mutual assistance, resulting in a constant evolution and development of new technologies and sustainable and profitable processes.2020-01-01T00:00:00ZAn Essay on How Data Science Can Strengthen BusinessSantos, António Duartehttp://hdl.handle.net/11144/63342024-01-10T11:06:57Z2023-01-01T00:00:00ZTítulo: An Essay on How Data Science Can Strengthen Business
Autor: Santos, António Duarte
Resumo: Data science combines several extensions, including, e.g., statistics, scientific methods, artificial intelligence (AI) and data analysis to extract value from raw data. Analytical applications and data scientists can then verify and defer the results to discover patterns and trends. In this way, they allow business leaders to gain enlightened knowledge about the market. Companies have kept a wealth of data with them. As modern technology allowed for the creation and storage of ever-increasing amounts of information, data volumes popped. The wealth of data collected and stored by these technologies can bring regenerative benefits to organizations and societies around the world, but only if they can interpret it. That's where data science comes in. So, the applied economics refers to the application of economic theory and analysis. In this article we intend to present several software that are available for the application of economic analysis. Analysis can be performed on any type of data and is a way of looking at raw data and find useful information. There are several technologies available for economic analysis, with more or less characteristics, some of which are not only intended for this single purpose, and cover a wider spectrum of functionalities. Some of the technologies we will use are, e.g., Rstudio, SPSS, Statis and SAS/Stata. These are very common technologies when talking about economic or business analysis. The intention is to demonstrate how each of these software analyse the data and subsequently the interpretations that we can draw from that scrutiny. Organizations are using data science teams to turn data into a competitive advantage by refining products and services and cost-effective solutions. We will use some different algorithms to verify how they are processed by the different technologies, namely we will use metrics such as maximum, minimum, covariance, standard deviation, average and multicollinearity and variance, even the use of types of regression models.2023-01-01T00:00:00ZAn approach to customer trust In the portuguese banking system: uma abordagem à confiança do cliente no sistema bancário portuguêsCabeças, AntónioSantos, António Duartehttp://hdl.handle.net/11144/63322024-01-10T11:07:30Z2023-01-01T00:00:00ZTítulo: An approach to customer trust In the portuguese banking system: uma abordagem à confiança do cliente no sistema bancário português
Autor: Cabeças, António; Santos, António Duarte
Resumo: Globalization, seen as a simultaneous transformation in economics, politics and culture, has led to more intense competition in different sectors of the economy. In the banking sector the analysis of customer satisfaction, loyalty and trust has been considered of great interest in recent years. In this study, we analyse the development of bank customer satisfaction and loyalty and, with more detail, the development of customer trust, using the results of surveys carried out with relevant statistical samples in Portugal and, for the first time, we also extend this analysis to bank customers in Spain.Scientific development, particularly in the field of behavioural economics, which includes many contributions from psychology and sociology, as well as in the field of neurology, which gave rise to neuroeconomics, allowed for the adaptation and change of traditional economic decision-making theories, based only on economic rationality, in the wake of the Cartesian dualism and Newtonian atomism, allowingfor a better understanding of decision-making. It has been demonstrated in previous studies that the currently most relevant element for customer approval and loyalty to their main banking institution in Portugal is trust. Therefore, the growth or downward trend of these two variables will be a good indicator to understand the development of customer trust in banking evolution. It has been verified that customer trust in banking and in the development of banks in the last years is not as negative as could be expected, considering all the problems that have affected this sector, mainly in Portugal. However, customer satisfaction has been declining over the past two years.A significant change in the banking activity is taking place, a different approach has been implemented, and this change may lead to a decline in customer trust.2023-01-01T00:00:00Z
